My first stool is starting to take shape, I knitted a background using a fine pure wool and then felted it slightly to make attaching it to the stool easier. I then dyed the background using yellow and turquoise acid dyes using pipets to paint the dye on. Rather than using the traditional method of boiling the wool in dye I steamed it instead which fixed the dye once I had finished. I love this method because it allows me to be more creative with the dying process as opposed to being restricted to one colour.

This is my desk in an organised mess ready to be photographed for New Designers. I quite like this image just because it sums up everything I'm doing right now.

These are rough mock ups of what I would like my stools to end up looking like, I'm not planning on using all of these techniques on one stool I will use one or two on each, I just wanted to see how well the colours went together and I think they're successful! My aim is for them to be eye catching in order to appeal to children and I think the bright colours achieve this.

These are the photographs I took of my workspace, I pin all my sources of inspiration around me so that I'm always focused. My project is based on the English Countryside and Woodland areas mixed together with the bright colours of the Spring flowers. I am aiming to design knitted stool covers for children so I want my work to be fun, exciting and most importantly colourful!

Hello!

Hi! My name is Sam Wilson and I am currently in my final year studying for a BA (Hons) degree in Textile Design at the Hull School of Art and Design. I specialise in knit and particularly enjoy chunky hand knitting. I have set up this blog to show the journey of my Final Major Project and future projects that I undertake once I have finished my degree.
